dinner with elise and kenneth..she is quite funny la..ask me to meet her during valentine's day and told me what to get her somemore! i was like "what the!"..this, from the girl who refused to make the first move to find out about the outcome of her interview because..she didn't want to be too aggressive! well, apparently, asking for chocolates and a dress for her valentine's day gift is alright! we had a really good laugh about that..as for whether it will come true or not, wait until valentine's day then say lor..

after so many days of overtime in my first week of work, a crappy dinner session was a nice way to end the week :)

was supposed to go to the singapore vs malaysia match but didn't due to a slight miscommunication..was supposed to go out with gracie but didn't because she was feeling unwell..

ended up staying home, getting some work done and then tuning in for the live telecast of the match..wasn't exactly the spectacle which everyone was anticipating but well, singapore won on penalties in the end (it was 1-1 at full-time)..and that's the only thing that matters isn't it?

it was announced today that the salvation army church team will not be taking part in the church league competition this year and..there is a possibility that the team may be disbanded due to a lack of players and commitment..which is sad since i've been with the team for nearly 8 years now..hai..

700 and moving on

induction week has just flown by and tomorrow will be my first day of real work! will be meeting with ginny, my marketing manager to discuss the expectations for this year and probably other marketing intiatives currently in the pipeline..so exciting!

had two sessions of football today (lasting 2 hours each)..the result of which is a very sore body and a few aching limps! :| hope i do not concuss at work tomorrow man..

am still in quite a lousy state of mind due to a certain 700 bucks not very cleverly spent..as with all things i think i should stop harping on it and move on..afterall, i kind of balanced out this expenditure with the profit i made on wheelock in the past week..and i should be grateful..thank God! :)

experiences of a dental patient and a muse addict

15 jan, monday
wanted to do scaling and polishing today but when i called ntuc denticare, they were all fully booked..then elise recommended me this dental clinic in bedok called bedok dental surgery (i know it sounds corny but that's the name!)..painless and cheap she kept telling me..so i braved the rain and went down (it is located behind bedok 85 market)..when i reached, the first sight that greeted my eyes was how 80s the exterior of the dental clinic was..and when i asked, the lady told me they do not have nets, only cash..after i withdrew the money and got back to the clinic to wait, i noticed that the interior probably has not been changed since the early 80s..dirty yellow walls, untiled cement floor, mouldy plastic chairs, chipped ceiling fan (the waiting area is not air conditioned!), aging cupboard behind a counter, rusty metal trays for the patients cards among other things! when i looked around, there were three patients waiting with me and all three were (i am convinced!) over 50! i was cursing in my mind "elise what have you gotten me into!"..i wanted to back out but since she seemed so convinced that the dentist was good, i stayed on..when it was my turn, i went into the dentist room and noticed how sparse it was, it was a big room separated into two by a dirty cloth-type portable partition..the dentist? well he was a healthy looking old man wearing a white translucent tee shirt and black pants (just like one of those void deck uncles!)..i am like "oh my gosh..here it goes!"..but then after everything, it was a good experience! like elise mentioned, it was fast and painless..the uncle, i mean dentist was really friendly and helpful and it was cheaper than most dental clinics as well! so now i have - well, not white - cleaner teeth for my first day at work! cool!

16 jan, tuesday
muse so totally rocks! they rocked so hard that i am now a bit deaf (partly due to the fact that we stood so near to the stage i suppose..but it's like upfront leh! so cool!)..sure, it was crowded, it was hot and there were lots of unidentified sweaty bodies rubbing next to each other but it was a helluva time! the band was super energetic and the crowd responded likewise..jumping up and down, hands waving in the air and clapping to the rhythm of every single song that the band played..super duper cool! i went with jingxian and her friends but ended up with jingheng, chinyong and his friend, amanda ..i think she's really cute, amanda..was dancing with her throughout the concert! :) (in case you were wondering, jinx apparently got swept away from me by a "human tidal wave"..i did not abandon her even though it may seem that way!)..oh and did i mention that muse so totally rocks? well they do!

if you're wondering why i haven't mention anything about my first day of work..it's because there is nothing to mention la..just induction, damn boring lor!

st james power station

was at st james power station with kenneth, chris, keith and (their friend) wong last night..i know it's rare that i go clubbing but it's also just as rare that kenneth jio to club leh! we basically parked ourselves in powerhouse just drinking and taking in the atmosphere..much as i was tempted to hit the dancefloor, the music was only so-so at best..and so it remained, just a temptation which was never fulfilled! :P i wouldn't say that it was a super nice experience but at least it was a fun night out with the guys! and the entry was only 20 bucks with two complimentary drinks..so that was cool as well! :)


we left at around 3am and were caught in a dilemma..of the four of us (wong left earlier), keith drank the least and he is the only one who does not have a license! that left chris or myself to drive, since kenneth was red in the face and nearly ko-ed! in the end chris took the wheel..on our way back (after dropping keith off), we made a short stopover to drink tea due to kenneth getting motion sickness..such an eventful night man!

met up with joan for the first time since i've known her from when she was in secondary 2! that is like a meeting nearly 8 years in the making! haha.. which incidentally eclipsed the previous "effort" set by meilay when i met her last year! anyway, joan and i went to parkway kbox and spent three and a half hours flexing our vocal muscles! at the end, we were both quite shagged out and freaking cold (especially our dear heroine who acted like she did not need a jacket..bwahaha)! but quite a shiok workout i must say!

hongkong

jan 7 - near midnight
touch down singapore..back from a 5 day holiday in hongkong..

jan 3
our first day in hongkong was spent wandering around the vacinity of the hotel we were in - harbour plaza, resort city..but as the hotel is located in the new territories, there was nowhere much for us to wander to except for the sole shopping centre..


jan 4
second day was the guided tour of the city..repulse bay (where most of hongkong's wealthy lived)..aberdeen (where the jumbo floating restaurant and the fishing village were) and then the ngong ping skyrail up to the giant buddha on lantau island..we ended the day with dinner at hang heung's kitchen at the new world centre and walking along the avenue of stars..sadly, we missed out on the symphony of lights (supposedly the world's largest permanent light and sound show)..





jan 5
moved to the metropark hotel in kowloon in the morning..after checking in, we took a tram down to causeway bay to one of the biggest shopping centres in hongkong, times square..but as most of the shops were designer labels, we did not spend too much time in there..thereafter we took the peak tram up to the peak..the rest of the day was spent roaming the streets of the soho region..and we also took a ride on the world's longest covered escalator (which is basically just as the name suggests - a very long escalator!)..


jan 6 and 7
we spent our last two days in hongkong free and easy..walking down the various streets (famous and not-so-famous)..entering shopping centres and shops (famous and not-so-famous) and basically just doing the things that tourists do! on the second last day, we had dimsum lunch at chao's inn (as per jingxian's recommendation) and it was really really good (cheap as well)!

the past 5 days were really nice..taking a holiday with the family after such a long time (though they can be terribly annoying at times!)..and the weather was really really lovely as well - bright sunshine and cool air..what a wonderful combination! :) while i was initially sceptical about the trip..in the end, i was kind of sad to leave..back to life..back to the humidity..back to reality..

the day after the world froze

it's the second day of the new year and already it feels different..well, a little bit anyway..my blog seems to be suffering from a lack of words..which is weird because i have all these thoughts running through my head that needs to be expressed but somehow..they remain just that - thoughts running through my head..

1st january 2007
counted down to the new year with kenneth and chris sitting on the ledge of the former supreme court (sounds so romantic right?)..when the clock struck midnight,
the traffic stopped..
the world froze and..
the only thing alive was a sky bursting into colour..

fireworks to usher in the new year..it certainly has a nice ring to it doesn't it? i thought that the fireworks display during the national day celebrations last year was much better though but oh well..
