Your Rose

probably one of my favourite and most unusually written poems until today..and since i've nothing much to blog about, i thought why not republish it? sorry to those who have read this a million times before..bear with me while the new stuff gets "polished" yeah?

"your rose"

when the red in the rose starts to fade
when the petals start falling off one by one
when the thorns don't prick anymore
when you cannot seem to smell the scent
of the rose you hold so dear to your heart
then you know it's time to let go
to let her bloom again
and maybe she'll love you for that

This Is My Prayer For You

Leave your worldly worries behind.
You're in a better place now.
You're home now.
Where the good Lord will bless you for eternity.

Rest In Peace.

"(nevertheless) that empty chair"

that empty chair
you used to sit
you never did say much
you never did smile much
but you were there
nevertheless

you may be gone
but your heartbeat
and your presence
they still linger
nevertheless

that empty chair
you used to sit

Good Friday

It's Good Friday. The day when Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross and died for the sins of the world. The weather outside seems to reflect just that - the death of our saviour. Heavy rain. Makes me want to stay home. Makes me want to sleep (again). Made me decide to skip mass. Made me realise what a lame excuse that is. Oh well..

Having nothing useful to do, i've decided against my good judgement to create a johari window for myself..so you think you really know me?

addy's Johari window

Have a good holiday y'all! Cheers!

The Patience Prayer

Was running through my past entries when i chanced upon "The Self-Discipline Prayer"..here's the other part of the two prayer set i wrote back then..it was previously only published on my friendster blog (which i've ceased to update by the way!)..

"The Patience Prayer"

Lord grant me patience in all that i do
When people offend me, what would you do if you were in my shoes?
Offer them my love and understanding, i probably should
But you're the carpenter and we're just pieces of wood
And block-heads like us usually cannot think straight
Anger takes control before we realise our mistake
Through our impulse, we hurt both others and ourselves
And we realise afterwards, we'd have hurt you as well
Help us be patient with others as you have been with us
Help us learn to understand and not harbour mistrust
If people should offend me next time, i will know what to do
Smile and forgive because that's what the Lord will do

Bits And Pieces (Of Stamps)

I read with interest an article (in the sunday papers) on two ACS boys - one who bit his SJI opponent and another who stamped on his opponent's head during a rugby match. What was even more interesting were some of the reaction to the biting boy's two year suspension from the sport. Here are two of the more amusing ones:

"We should be more forgiving, to students. You don't want to use a sledgehammer to kill a housefly", Mr Terence Khoo, ex-national captian

"What do you ACS(I) players to do? Play ballet rugby where they hand the ball over like they're playing a game of musical chairs?", Steven Yeo, project consultant

I mean rugby, like football is a contact sport but to resort to biting and stamping is inhuman and is ridiculously unacceptable behaviour. Even in a much more violent sport like boxing, Mike Tyson's biting antics were not tolerated! Thus i'm surprised that comments like above can even be considered valid arguments! The problem is while we do not want to use a sledgehammer to kill a housefly (which bites apparently!), the housefly still must be killed! For goodness sake, it's just a two year ban from rugby Mr Khoo..not like it's a lifetime ban from the sport (big deal!), not like it's a lifetime ban from ALL sports in Singapore (so?) and not like it's expulsion from the school (now that's one big sledgehammer!)! And regarding Mr Yeo's unintelligent question about "what do we want ACS (I) players to do?", we want them to play like proper men and not like cavemen!! While we can do without the synchronisation and choreography of ballet, what we need is competitiveness and not cowardly and unsportsmanlike behaviour like these. To those who sympathise with the two offenders, i ask, how would YOU feel if you were the one bitten or stamped on? Happier now that you have bite and stud marks on your body to show off? Ivy Singh-Lim (ex-netball Singapore president) puts it best, "He should be punished..Just ban him for three to six months and move on".

Other interesting bits:
1. ACS won the match 54-3 against SJI.

So it was just a love bite afterall thanking the opponents for the big winning margin. Why else would you bite a loser rite? It's love la..that's what it is!

2. The ACS dude who stamped on his opponent's head got only a six match ban.

So kids remember this rule in sports..when you want to get rid of the opponent, annihilate him, crack his skull! Don't just bite him like a sissy!

3. ACS(I) is one of the top schools in Singapore

No surprise. Where else can your kids pick up life skills on the art of foreplay and/ or putting the stamps on!

*Note: This article should not be used as a judge on ACS dudes..i'm sure most of them are nice guys just that those two mentioned were a bit nicer than the rest and especially intimate. Who knows? They have so much hidden talent, the supporting actor in Tammy might have been an ex-student!

The Waiting Game

Two hectic weeks has just flown by..which is all the more ironic especially considering that the two weeks were after i've left standard chartered! Been helping karen vet her thesis..sure the hours were a bit longer than i expected, more effort was required that i expected and of course there were the few arguments and disagreements in between but overall it was fun..not to say that i was much help even, cuz geography really isn't my thang..the main thing is that she gets a good grade for all the time and energy she invested into it!! -fingers crossed-

Still awaiting fullerton to get back to me regarding the final results of the last (and final!) round..apparently i was one of two in the last round..feels like singapore idol finals man! Please call 1900-IDOL-AD to vote for addy to get the job! -does a stupid poser thing with his fingers- Anyway, i felt that i didn't do too well for the last round, which was an excel test but oh well, what's done is done..just have to be patient and wait..and wait..and oh is that the phone ringing?? rite just the alarm..and wait..and wait..
